Professor Podcasts: Patricia Herlihy

Patricia Herlihy, professor emerita of history, is the Louise Doherty Wyant Professor at Emmanuel College. At Brown, she taught Russian and Soviet history and served as director of the International Relations Program. She is the author of The Alcoholic Empire: Vodka and Politics in Late Imperial Russia, which was published by Oxford University Press. A current project includes the text for a photographic history of the city of Odessa. Her first book on Odessa was released as a Ukrainian language edition at the Fourth International Ukrainian Studies Conference, which she attended in Odessa in August 1999. She also is working on a biography of Eugene Schuyler, a nineteenth-century Russian historian, translator, and diplomat who served in Russia, Constantinople, Rumania, Serbia, Greece, England, Italy, and Egypt. Herlihy received her PhD in Russian history from the University of Pennsylvania. From the Watson Institute, Brown University.
