Policing Providence: The Community Safety Act

In July, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo signed into law legislation aimed at curbing racial profiling in law enforcement. Unsatisfied with the extent of the legislation, community organizations in Providence came together to create the Community Safety Act (CSA), a city ordinance that, if put into effect, would be among the most comprehensive legislation of its kind in the country. This op-doc produced by BPR’s media team examines the background and future prospects of the CSA.
